A former teacher at track coach at Stanhope Elmore High School in Millbrook, Alabama has been sentenced to one year in Elmore County Jail after having sexual contact with a student under the age of 19. Following his release, Elmore will have to register as a sex offender for life. Stanton was originally charged with rape in the first degree, a Class A felony. The grand jury indicted him on a lessor charge, a Class B felony. The judge handling the case, Ben Fuller, gave the jury a lessor charge to consider, a misdemeanor charge of a school employee having sexual contact with a student under 19.
