Adam Blake Bearden, 32, a former teacher at Creekview High School in Canton Georgia, pleaded guilty to cruelty to children and will spend six months in jail, and a 10-year probation “under sex offender conditions.” Bearden reportedly had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student. Prior to beginning employment at Creekview High School in 2010, Bearden was a biology instructor at Georgia College and State University from 2003-2004. His position at Creekview High School was terminated in December 2012.

In April 2013, Giovanna Yaranga was found with a 17-year-old boy in the back seat of his car. Yaranga was facing up to 20 years in prison after admitting to having sex with the student throughout the 2012-13 school year.  As part of a plea deal, she received a suspended prison sentence of up to four years, keeping her on probation. She was also required to be listed on the state sex offender registry for 10 years and undergo counseling.

Chrystina Delrosario, 25, a teacher’s aide at Reflections Central School, a school for juvenile offenders, was arrested in July 2012 on suspicion of having sex with a 15-year-old student. She pleaded guilty in December to two counts of having unlawful sex with a minor and admitted she had sex with the boy in a classroom in late June 2012. In February 2013, Judge John Thompson sentenced Delrosario to a 365-day jail term, suspended following successful completion of three year probation and ordered her to register as a sex offender. He said he would “entertain” withdrawing the sex registration requirement after a year of probation and would also consider reducing the felony conviction to a misdemeanor after two years of successful probation.

Cabot Junior High Teacher Sentenced to Six Years in Prison for Sex Crimes  6

A former teacher at Cabot Junior High School North was sentenced to six years in prison following pleading guilty last month to more than a dozen counts of sexual assault involving a juvenile student. Stracener was arrested in February 2012 after police received a report from a student’s mother about inappropriate contact, including over 40 text messages over a three day period. During an interview with authorities, the victim admitted to sexual contact and intercourse with the teacher at least 13 times. The sentence was for 15 years in prison with 9 years suspended. Stracener must serve at least two years before becoming eligible for parole.

Maui Band Teacher Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison For Sex Assault on Student  66

Jim Alan Balicanta was arrested in April 2012 for 27 counts of first-degree sexual assault and 25 counts of third-degree sexual assault. According to multiple news reports, the assaults took place over a three-year period before the victim came forward to authorities in January 2012. Balicanta plead no contest to multiple counts and was ultimately charged with eight counts of first degree sexual assault and eight counts of third-degree sexual assault. The victim was an eighth grade student at Iao Intermediate School when the abuse started. In November 2012, Circuit Court Judge Rhondo Loo sentenced Balicanta to a maximum of 20 years in prison. The parole board would establish the minimum time Balicanta must serve.

Texas Teacher Sentenced to 5 Years for Sexual Assault of Student  11

Lauren Cosgrove, a teacher at Strickland Middle School in Denton County Texas, was arrested in July 2007, for having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old boy. She was sentenced in October 2009 to five years in prison on a charge of aggravated sexual assault. She was also sentenced to two years in prison on a charge of tampering with a witness. The court had ordered her not to contact the boy, but he testified that she picked him up outside his home in December 2008 and persuaded him to write a letter saying he lied about what happened between them. The sentences will be served concurrently, with Cosgrove eligible for parole in 2 years.

Allena Ward, 24, was sentenced to six years in prison in February 2008 for having sexual encounters with five teenage boys. Ward, a teachert at Bell Street Middle School in Clinton, met 14- and 15-year-old boys at a motel, a park, and behind a restaurant, according to USA today.  Some of her victims were her students. At trial, a forensic psychiatrist said Ward is not a pedophile, but rather a childlike victim suffering from a repressed childhood and personality disorders.  Ward was sentenced  to 15 years in prison for each lewd act, but the punishments were suspended to six years. In court, Ward said “I apologize from the depths of my heart.”
